The Olakunle boys were playing in the sitting room and the whole house was upside down when they suddenly heard a familiar car horn. Segun peeped through the window and exclaimed "Daddy has come!" Suddenly everyone started arranging the sitting room and picking up biscuit wrappers on the floor, they knew that it would be trouble if Daddy met the house the way it was disorganized. By the time Daddy came in, the house was spick and span.
The bible says in 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (ESV)
Do you not know that youbare God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? 17If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.
In the days of Moses, Joshua and King David right up till the end of the Old Testament, God dwelt in a ark and in temples. If you read Leviticus, you will see all the protocol involved in entering God's temple, not just anyone could enter the temple and not just anyone could serve, only the Levites could serve at the temple and they were consecrated for that purpose.
When Jesus died, all of that changed! The veil that separated the outer court from the Holy of Holies was rent in two, this means that every man now has direct access to God through Jesus Christ! God also took it a bit further by dwelling in us, God would not need to dwell in tents or in a ark any longer, He would now dwell in us! We became the temple of God!
If your father or even your boss was in a room, your behavior would change; there are certain things you won't say, there is a certain way you won't eat, there are many things you wouldn't do just to honor the presence of a man yet the God of Gods lives in you! He calls you His temple, do you honor that temple by what you say, think, eat, act and by your associations? Would you disrespect your father or your boss? Would you get to work and not greet your boss? Yet you wake up everyday and not pray to God or read His word!
Let us worship God with every part of our body; our mind, mouth, eyes, hands, feet and even the clothes we wear. Worship is from an old English word which means "worth- ship" which translates to mean the worth you place on someone or something. The worth you place on God should be evident in how you treat His temple which is your body.
Being God's temple also means we carry God! If God cannot fail and is never broke, then you cannot fail and should never be broke, you should experience the God kind of life as well. May God help us all in Jesus name. Amen
