Adultery Will Kill You!

  "Nike is that you? Wow, you live in Abuja? This is such a pleasant surprise, how have you been?" Nike turned to see Femi and she almost fainted, he was her ex boyfriend who went abroad to study, they kept in touch for a while but after 2 months, he was suddenly unreachable, nobody knew where he was even his parents. 

"Femi? Am I dreaming? What happened to you? You just ran off like that?!" Nike and Femi sat down and he told her the story of how he was arrested with some friends while they went out clubbing and when they were searched, one of his friends had cocaine on him and they were thrown  in jail. He was almost deported so he had to move to another state. The story was on the news in the States so he thought everyone in Nigeria knew about it and he was so ashamed to call anyone even his parents.

It's been 5 years since then and both Nike and Femi were married to different people but as they talked the sparks began to fly, they realized the feelings were still there. Nike took Femi's hand and said "you could have called me, I would have waited for you" 

From that day on, Nike and Femi saw almost everyday and in one unguarded moment they had sex, it felt good but Femi returned to his business on Monday and things were turning upside down, he was a car dealer and suddenly all his cars were seized at the port, then robbers raided his car shop, tragedy began to befall Femi from everywhere, he couldn't understand what was going on so he ran to see his pastor.

As his pastor was about to pray, he suddenly asked him, " did you sleep with a married woman?" Femi confessed everything to his pastor then his pastor showed him the implication of what he had done in the bible and Femi began to cry, he prayed for forgiveness and his pastor also prayed with him.  Femi's business picked up again and from that moment he knew he would never cheat on his wife again.

I will be talking to men this morning. The fastest way to die early and wretched is to sleep with another man's wife. Sleeping with any woman apart from your wife is dangerous but my focus this morning is on adultery. 

There  are so many warnings about this in the bible but I will quote a few;

1. Proverbs 2:16-19 (NLT) 16Wisdom will save you from the immoral woman,

from the seductive words of the promiscuous woman.

17She has abandoned her husband

and ignores the covenant she made before God.

18Entering her house leads to death;

it is the road to the grave.^b

19The man who visits her is doomed.

He will never reach the paths of life.

2.  Proverbs 6:23-29 (NIV) 

23For this command is a lamp,

this teaching is a light,

and correction and instruction

are the way to life,

24keeping you from your neighbor’s wife,

from the smooth talk of a wayward woman.

25Do not lust in your heart after her beauty

or let her captivate you with her eyes.

26For a prostitute can be had for a loaf of bread,

but another man’s wife preys on your very life.

27Can a man scoop fire into his lap

without his clothes being burned?

28Can a man walk on hot coals

without his feet being scorched?

29So is he who sleeps with another man’s wife;

no one who touches her will go unpunished.

This doesn't mean you can't keep in touch with married ex boyfriends and girlfriends but please let us be careful, it's the fastest way for the devil to destroy you. If she's married leave her alone, you didn't marry her because you were not meant to be together. Let her go, do your wife and children a favor, let God be happy with you.

King Solomon learnt this wisdom from his father because it almost destroyed King David. The only curse in the lineage of King David came about as a result of sleeping with another woman's wife, God said to David " the sword shall never depart from your house" (2 Samuel 12:10). Although descendants of King David have always reigned, there is always bloodshed in that family. 

If you have been involved in adultery, go and see your pastor and ask God to help you, you can't survive it unless you stop! May God help us to fear Him and keep His commandments. Amen!
