Are You Saving for the Future?

James checked his mail,  there was a letter from his landlord suing him to court, he,was owing a full year's rent. How did life become so horrible? He who was a former international footballer could not even afford to pay his rent. The newspaper would feast on his story, he could read the headlines already 'Ex-Chelsea Player is as broke as a church mouse'.

He suddenly began to cry; he worked hard to attain success and then he lost everything he had worked for in less than five years because he  was spending more than he was earning; he was confident his career would always be on the rise; he thought  would live like a king forever.

During a football match, he had an injury that kept him on the bench for 6 months, after that,  his career began to deteriorate till no football club would buy him. He couldn't afford to pay the mortgage on the house, the cars were also too expensive to maintain.  His wife left him shortly after he sold her pink range rover, she justified her action by saying he never told her they would be broke.  James looked up and prayed "God if you will bless me again, I will live my life differently and much more responsibly".

The bible says that in Proverbs 21:20 (NLT) the wise have wealth and luxury but fools spend whatever they get. Many people are riding their future and carrying the money they ought to have invested for their  children as handbags and phones. Many people who are indebted heavily always believe the lie that there is money in the future.  News flash! The way you live your life today determines the future! How then can the future be bright when you have borrowed everything you are supposed to enjoy in the future today?

Make savings a life long habit, it will save your life. Some are of the school of thought that you should save 10% of your income, I believe you should save as much as possible; anything left after tithe, investment and expenses goes to savings for me.

May we not look back one day and not be able to place our hands on what we did with all the money that passed through our hands in a lifetime.  Amen.
