Jacob whistled past Chief Martins and greeted him cheerfully as he
left for work, Chief grunted back at him, he always wondered why the young man
was always happy, he and his wife were living in the boys quarters yet they
would be the first to wake up, he always knew when they woke up because he
could hear them speak some kind of gibberish they called speaking in tongues.
He would never understand what made these people so happy
despite that they didn't have a lot of money.
Chief Martins looked back at his life, he made money early; he was
already a millionaire at 21, money was his focus, he didn't have time for any
other thing apart from making money. He had been told by his father that if he
didn't have money, he could never be taken seriously in the world, so he
devoted all of his time to making money and he was truly wealthy. His friends
were important people in the society and they all took him seriously but it
seemed that's where the respect stopped.
His wife didn't think much of him, he had given her a big
house and luxurious cars, she had diamonds and expensive clothes yet she always
nagged him simply because he was never around. His children too were spoilt
brats, he had been considering giving all of his money to charity. The only
person that made him happy was Lucy; his mistress and secretary and even she
had of recent become too greedy and demanding.
He would trade all he had to be as happy as Jacob who
lived with his wife at the boys quarters.
The bible says in Proverbs 9:10: the fear of God is the
beginning of wisdom. Anything you build on your vanity will eventually kill
you. Do it God's way, God's way may seem slow and painful, it is a process that
will outlast you.
